About MoonLake Designs and Founder, Kelly Counselman.

I started MoonLake Designs while traveling in Guatemala during 2018. I was appreciating all the natural beauty of the country and its colors surrounding me, and I found myself particularly admiring the vibrance displayed in each marketplace.

I saw an abundance of woven textiles, new and used, and I thought to myself, “How can this be repurposed and transformed into new life?

VOILA, a bag of course! Everyone uses and needs a bag, and everyone can appreciate beauty.

I am proud to say that all the textiles we use have been ethically sourced and each have been previously owned garments, giving us the opportunity to be a part of the slow fashion movement. This also supports the rights of indigenous women in having a dignified job while keeping their weaving traditions alive.

I hand select each of the textiles used in every product. It is one of the most enjoyable and rewarding parts of my job and business. I love speaking to each talented artisan and searching for the patterns and colors that make me happy and excited. I take special care when designing every bag to preserve and use each piece to its maximum capacity. Zero waste, exceptional quality, and fairness for both our consumers and artisans are the foundations of how I built MoonLake Designs.
